WUD Music Committee blog

This is the blog of the committee I'm on at UW-Madison. We're in charge of booking bands every weekend, so go check out how easy it actually is to book a concert.

Original poem

The Curtain

The world wears a mask
Thinking she’s clever.
Spinning forever, but never
Does she stop to ask.
Small explosions in the sky,
The stars ignite the masses
Like piles of sand in glasses,
Just watching the hours go by.

The holes in my brain,
Trenches of confusion,
Inspiring delusion,
Playing the same refrain.
My eyes look inside
For clues to abuse
While my heart lights a fuse,
And my blood swells with the tide.

The preachers act so certain
About what lies beyond the curtain,
Ignoring the beauty and cruelty
Of her impenetrable truth
And peaceful futility.

Phish comeback rumors!

Rumors are running wild on the Phish message boards about a possible Phish reunion, including scheduled tour dates for this upcoming summer!

In case you have no clue what I'm talking about, Phish called it quits last August, and there last shows were in Coventry, VT for a goodbye festival. Phish fans are probably the most dedicated group of music lovers that you can find, so there break up was rather heartbreaking for many people, although others felt it was about time that the band moved on.

Personally, I think this is just way to soon to even consider a reunion, no matter how much I would love to see another Phish show. It's also a slap in the face to the fans who were literaly crying at the Coventry show. Nevertheless, if I saw Phish walking back on stage, any complaints would immediately turn into overwhelming joy and sheer happiness.

But who knows, this could all be a hoax, so don't get your hopes up...

The Second Coming

To all my faithful fans, (well at least to anyone who got here accidentally)

My Fall semester at UW-Madison is drawing to a close, and I have finally found the will to start posting again. Part of my inspiration came from my recent application to the Journalism School at Madison, while another factor came from the plummeting approval rating of Mr. George Bush. Furthermore, winter break promises to be as boring as usual, and what better way to pass the time than speak my mind to the world.

Photo is of the bassist from Rose Hill Drive, who sound like the god children of Led Zeppelin.

Bright Eyes is a genius

*Note: the iTunes links no longer work :(

When I first started this post, I was just trying to find some good videos to link to from iTunes, but in the process, after accidentally deleting all the links I made, I found these 2 videos below instead. So, I think it was God who pointed me to these songs, along with there amazing videos. Here is where my post began earlier, which was originally titled "Remember when MTV was good?":

Here are some more music videos from iTunes. They've got a bunch of stuff you'll never see on MTV. These are selections from the alternative genre. More to come later if I feel like it...

Bright Eyes - Easy/Lucky/Free: One of the coolest ways to visualize a song. Think you can write backwards? check this out...

Bright Eyes - First Day of My Life: Upon writing this post I've realized that Bright Eyes is a genius, so I am postponing the rest of the post until later so I can go listen to more of his music, and I suggest that you do the same.

Mashups - Must Hear

Go here now to hear some hilarious versions of songs spliced together. My favorite is probably 50 Cent rapping over the Benny Hill Theme. There's also Marvine Gaye singing to Radiohead.
