This Just Makes Me Mad

With so much wonderful music out there, it is really a shame that these bastards at the record companies only care about their own damn wallets. How can anyone justify paying thousands of dollars to get J-Lo played on the radio? You would have to pay ME to get me to listen to that crap. Thanks Tom Flynn for the link/info. Check out his blog if you wanna find out what's really going on in the world.

"Your Mom's Blues"

Here it is, the first single from blues legend Erik Weber... well it's a start at least. I made this using Garageband, but only for the beats. The guitars are all me. Dedicated to mommy, listen closely to find out why...

How to DL Shows

For the most part, any show you want to dl is going to come in a .flac format. This is a very high quality file type that is also referred to as "Lossless", since it doesn't lose any of the sound quality that existed in the original recording, meaning it sounds like you are actually at the show. This differs significantly from mp3 files, which are crappy and shouldn't be bothered with. I'm telling you this in advance, b/c once you dl the .flac files from the sites below, they will be HUGE files, and you also need to convert them to .wav files in order to listen to them. More on that later...

I use two different methods for downloading live concerts.

1. Archive.org - this site has thousands of shows to download. Simply browse the Live Music Archive, find a show, then choose one of the format/sizes on the left sidebar. For some shows you can also just stream the show into itunes and save some space on your hardrive.

2. BitTorrent - the technical jargin for how this works is slightly confusing, but here's all you need to know about bittorrent. First, download the BitTorrent program from the link above, and this will act as the acutal download program. Next, you need to find torrent files that the program can use to download shows. For these, go to bt.etree.org. Once you find a show you want, you first download the torrent file, and then once you open that file, the BitTorrent program will start to download the show to your computer.

Now, once you have your .flac files, you need to dl a program to convert them to .wav:

for Mac OSX - go here

for Windows - go here

You can then copy the .wav files into itunes and delete everything else to free up hardrive space.
Enjoy.

check out etree.org if none of this makes any sense to you.

Bonnaroo 2004 DVD

I just bought the 2004 Bonnaroo DVD, and it is a masterpiece of film making. It was made by Danny Clinch, a famous photographer known for shooting musicians, and it really is an artistic gem. Also, the festival took place months before the 2004 election, and Dave Matthews gives a beautiful quote about the current state of the world, which I will post once I watch it again. Oh, and the music/performances are incredible. Get it NOW!! (i took the above photo from this year's Roo, 2005. i plan on getting the other 400 or so photos up asap. check out my dank photos on my links list)

New Music

Got a new band you think deserves some attention? Let us know. Although they've been around for awhile, I'll start off this post with a suggestion to check out My Morning Jacket, and here's a pic of the lead singer, Jim James. Trust me, you'll love em.

Best of Bonnaroo Podcast

Here is my first Podcast. It's just a test of something i'd like to do when i find some time on my hands. Enjoy. (photo is me at Bonnaroo)
